Retaining Walls

Retaining Walls That Hold the Line for Decades

A sloped yard erodes a little more with every storm. A properly built wall stops the slide and gives you flat, usable ground.

The Problem

Your Slope Is Washing Away, One Storm at a Time

Every hard Georgia rain pulls soil downhill. Mulch ends up in the street, beds slump, and the back half of your lot stays too steep to use. A leaning or bulging wall built without drainage makes it worse, because the soil behind it is holding water it cannot shed.

4 Seasons Landscaping & Construction has engineered and installed retaining walls across North Atlanta since 2000. We build modular block and flagstone walls with compacted base, gravel backfill, and drainage that relieves pressure instead of trapping it. The result is level, usable space that stays put.

One customer, Lexy, put it simply: the wall came out exactly as she envisioned. Get your free quote by the next business day. Call or text (678) 619-5236.

Our Process

Retaining Wall Installation Done in the Right Order

A wall is only as good as what you cannot see. We excavate to stable soil, compact the base, and step the courses with gravel and drain pipe behind every wall. Skip any of those steps and the wall leans within a few winters.

Nick supervises every installation personally. We are fully insured, family-owned, and A+ rated with the BBB. Where the wall ties into a patio or a drainage system, the same crew builds both, so nothing gets lost between contractors.

  • Gravel backfill and drainage on every wall

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a retaining wall cost?
Retaining wall cost comes down to height, length, material, and access for equipment. Taller walls need more base and backfill, which drives most of the price. We measure your slope and put a firm number in writing, free, by the next business day. Call or text (678) 619-5236 and we will come take a look.
How long does retaining wall installation take?
Most residential walls go up in a few days once excavation starts. Long terraced runs or walls that tie into patios and steps take longer, and weather can shift the schedule. Your written quote includes a realistic timeline before we start. Reach out and we will scope yours.
Do retaining walls really need drainage behind them?
Yes. Soil holds water, and water pushing against a wall is what makes walls lean, bulge, and fail. Every wall we build gets gravel backfill and drain pipe so pressure has somewhere to go. If you have an older wall that is starting to move, have us assess it before it gets worse.
Can you add retaining wall drainage to an existing wall?
Sometimes. If a wall is leaning because water is trapped behind it, we can excavate the backfill, add gravel and drain pipe, and reset the courses that have moved. Whether a retrofit or a rebuild makes more sense depends on how far the wall has shifted. Call or text (678) 619-5236 and we will assess it for free.
How tall can a retaining wall be before it needs an engineer?
Most North Atlanta counties set a height threshold above which a wall requires engineering and a permit, and the exact number varies by city. Taller slopes are often better handled as two terraced walls anyway, which also creates plantable beds between them. We sort out the requirements for you as part of the free quote.
Which retaining wall material lasts longest?
Modular block and flagstone both outlast the mortgage when the base, backfill, and drainage are built correctly, because walls fail from water pressure, not from the face material. Block gives clean, uniform lines while flagstone reads more natural. We will show you both against your slope and budget at the quote visit.
